Lavinia Manfrotto
Good day or good evening to whoever is reading, I am Lavinia. Despite what many amazed people say, I have been working in this bookstore since the very beginning. The reason for such amazement is quite simple: in the store, I take care of the reception and loading of books, so I am rarely seen in the rooms and halls you may browse. Oh, the window displays you admire (you do admire them, don’t you?!?) are made by yours truly.
My job is my passion. I sound corny, I know, but it is the simple truth. I like opening the boxes and sticking my nose into them. Books have a lovely smell, which puts you in the mood for being on the sofa with a chestnut platter and a glass of red wine, or lying in the shade of an olive tree with an iced spritz and many beautiful pages to lose yourself in. It is nice to be the first person to flip through them; for a brief moment I have the privilege of being the only one to know all of the new releases of the week.
I read anything that isn’t an essay, it depends on the period I’m going through. I remember reading Nancy Drew novels as a young girl until my eyes were incapable of distinguishing one word from the other. In fact, I am the one with glasses. The book that still holds a special place in my heart is The human comedy by Saroyan. I remember revisiting pages I had cried over, to cry once more.
